Born in Surakarta, November 5, 1954, Basuki Hadimuljono is the fourth of eight children. Since childhood, Basuki has often moved from place to place. This is because his father is an Army soldier so he must follow any area where his father is assigned.

Basuki completed his first elementary and secondary school education in Palembang, South Sumatra. Before graduating from junior high school, Basuki moved to Papua and finished his education there to high school.

Furthermore, Basuki moved to Surabaya and completed his high school education at SMAN 5 Surabaya.

After graduating from high school, Basuki was accepted into the geological engineering of Gadjah Mada University (UGM). He won the title of engineer at the age of 25.

Next, Basuki was accepted as a civil servant at the Ministry of Public Works. After several years as a civil servant, he received a scholarship from the agency where Basuki worked to continue his studies.

When he was 35 years old, Basuki won the Master of Science, Civil Engineering and Doctor of Philosophy, Civil Engineering at the age of 38 from the State University of Colorado, United States.

After completing his study, Basuki returned to the country and continued his work at the Ministry of PUPR.

When he was a state servant at the Ministry of PUPR, Basuki was noted to have occupied important posts, ranging from the Head of the Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Public Works for the period 2005-2007. After more than 31 years of service, Basuki was appointed as Minister of Public Works and Public Housing in the Jokowi-JK Working Cabinet for the 2014-2019 period.
