SIDOARJO - A member of the East Java DPRD, Sahat Tua Simandjuntak, was charged with accepting bribes worth IDR 39.5 billion.

KPK Public Prosecutor Arief Suhermanto in the trial said that the defendant Sahat was suspected of accepting bribes worth Rp. 39.5 billion from two other defendants, namely Abdul Hamid and Ilham Wahyudi as compensation for his role as Deputy Chair of the 2019-2024 East Java DPRD.

"The defendant Sahat Tua Simandjuntak knew or at least could suspect that the Rp39.5 billion he had received was given because of his power as a member of the East Java DPRD, which was deemed to be able to allocate principal grant funds (pokir) from the East Java Provincial Government APBD for the 2020-2022 Fiscal Year," he said during a trial at the Surabaya Corruption Court, East Java, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 23.

Sahat accepted the bribe as compensation to smooth out the disbursement of grant funds which will later be received by the community group (pokmas).

After the trial, Arif said today's trial was aimed at proving the role of the defendant Sahat in this corruption case. The prosecutor will present witnesses regarding the disbursement of grant funds from both witnesses from the Provincial Government and the East Java DPRD and other elements.

"What is related to the disbursement circle and the grant process, of course, we present it at this trial," he said.

Arif said the budget allocated by Sahat from 2020-2023 was worth around Rp. 200 billion. Meanwhile, the total budget for East Java Provincial Government grants allocated to all DPRD members is Rp. 8 trillion.

After hearing the indictment, Sahat and his attorney accepted the indictment and Dewa Suardita as the Chief Justice of the Panel of Judges scheduled a trial with the agenda of examining witnesses next week.

Meanwhile, Sahat apologized to all parties for this case, including the people of East Java.

"I apologize to all the people of East Java and my family, I ask for prayers so that I am healthy and can attend this trial and can be held accountable for my mistakes, I ask for prayers for all," he said.
