JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) conveyed the need to resolve several areas related to sea and land borders between Indonesia and Malaysia, when meeting with PM Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the ASEAN 2023 Summit in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.

"President Jokowi again reminded the importance of optimizing the One-Channel System and protecting Indonesian migrant workers who work in Malaysia," said Foreign Minister Retno, in a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wednesday, May 10.

As an effort to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, Prime Minister of Malaysia, said Foreign Minister Retno, again conveyed an invitation to President Jokowi to visit Malaysia.

The protection of migrant workers and the eradication of criminal acts of trafficking in persons (TPPO) is one of the highlights ahead of the ASEAN Summit. Earlier this week, President Jokowi in a post on Twitter said that human trafficking must be completely eradicated, upstream to downstream.

"These human trafficking victims are ASEAN people who are generally deceived online. Therefore, at the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia raised the issue of eradicating human trafficking to be discussed together," tweeted President Jokowi.

Apart from the Malaysian Prime Minister, President Jokowi also held a bilateral meeting with Laos Prime Minister Sonexay Solehdone.

In total, today President Jokowi chaired five official meetings. Among them are summit meetings in plenary format, and then there are four interface meetings, each with parliament, with Youth, and finally with ABAC, namely with business, and also with high-level task force.
