JAKARTA - The process of halal certification for food, medicines, and cosmetics in Indonesia has reached 87 percent by the end of 2022.

This was conveyed by the Main Director of the Research Institute for Food, Drugs, and Cosmetics (LPPOM) of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Muti Arintawati when visiting the residence of Vice President (Wapres) Ma'ruf Amin in Jakarta Monday 27 February.

He also conveyed that LPPOM MUI is getting closer to the ideal time in examining the halal certification process.

"The average domestic inspection time is 28 days, according to the regulations it's 25 days. We are getting closer," said the Vice President who is also Chair of the MUI Advisory Council in a press statement, Monday, February 27, as reported by Antara.

In addition, LPPOM MUI continues to support the implementation and regulations related to halal products.

"We are also assisting the new Halal Inspection Agency in preparing reports to the fatwa commission," he said.

Meanwhile, Spokesperson for the Vice President Masduki Baidlowi added, LPPOM MUI reported several challenges and obstacles experienced.

"Until now, not everything is clear. There is something that needs to be coordinated between institutions at the Ministry of Religion and LPPOM," said Masduki.

Nonetheless, Masduki believes that the problems faced by LPPOM MUI will soon be resolved.

Also accompanying the Vice President at the meeting were the Head of the Vice Presidential Secretariat Ahmad Erani Yustika, Deputy for Economic Policy Support and Competitiveness Enhancement Guntur Iman Nefianto, Special Staff for the Vice President Masduki Baidlowi, Masykuri Abdillah, and Robikin Emhas.
