Yasonna Not Attending, House Of Representatives Commission III Postpones Discussion Of Fugitive Extradition Treaty Bill With Singapore

JAKARTA - Commission III of the House of Representatives has postponed a working meeting with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) regarding the discussion of the Bill on Ratification of the Agreement between the Government of Indonesia and the Government of Singapore on the Extradition of Fugitives.

The postponement was made because the Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Yasonna H. Laoly was unable to attend by assigning Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej to attend a work meeting that was originally scheduled to start at the Parliament Complex Senayan Jakarta on Monday, November 7 morning.

"Today, the Minister of Law and Human Rights has assigned the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights to attend today's meeting. Likewise, the Minister of Foreign Affairs has assigned Mr. Mirza Nur Hidayat the Director of Southeast Asia. there is something interesting for the DPR, today we are discussing the law that the president assigned the Menkumham and Foreign Minister for that I ask for opinions, this is the law, will we accept this or will we postpone it? Desmond J Mahesa as chairman of the meeting.

In response, members of Commission III of the DPR agreed that the discussion of the law was represented by the minister.

"I agree that for the first time at least we start with the minister conveying (the law), after that the committee process may be represented by the one assigned by the minister. Because this law is a law that attracts people's attention, it's not a stand-alone bill but a related bill with other bills that are not in this commission," said Arsul Sani representing the PPP faction.

Hearing the opinion of the member representatives, the chairperson of the meeting then took a stance to postpone the work meeting with the Minister of Law and Human Rights and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

"I think there are five factions, Mr. Deputy Minister, not that we don't respect the law, but this time it's the law. Talking about the law is not talking about Golkar supporting the government, but talking about the DPR and the government to lay out this law," Desmond said.

"Thus, today's meeting is postponed for further please convey to the Minister of Law and Human Rights, we do not mean anything other than to maintain the relationship with the authority of the DPR and the government. Thank you," he continued.

The Secretariat of Commission III of the DPR RI then rescheduled the work meeting related to the Extradition Treaty Bill on Monday, December 5, next.

"This is a note from the secretariat, if possible on December 5th. If possible, convey it to Mr. Laoly on December 5th," said Desmond.
