Golkar Deputy Emphasizes Akbar Tandjung To Follow Party's Decision To Support Airlangga's 2024 Presidential Candidate

JAKARTA - The Golkar Party confirmed that Honorary Council Chairman Akbar Tandjung followed the party's decision to support Airlangga Hartarto in running for the 2024 presidential election.

Deputy General Chairperson (Waketum) of the Golkar Party DPP Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung said all party cadres bearing the banyan tree were still solid in winning Airlangga. This includes Akbar, a senior figure in Golkar who has always prioritized the party's political agenda throughout his life.

"As a result of the National Conference and Rapimnas, Golkar has a presidential candidate, namely Airlangga Hartarto. There, there is Akbar Tandjung, not only as a senior figure, but also the Chairman of the Honorary Council. At the Munas forum it was unanimously agreed, Airlangga the 2024 presidential candidate," said Doli in statement, Wednesday 5 October.

Regarding Akbar Tandjung's statement to Anies Baswedan during the inauguration of the monument in Menteng, Wednesday, October 5 yesterday, Doli said it was a normative statement. It's just a congratulation because Anies has just been promoted by NasDem as a presidential candidate for 2024.

"It's just a normative statement. Talk about a character's response to someone's candidacy. It's just like saying congratulations (to Anies, ed)," he said.

Therefore, Doli said that Akbar remained consistent in supporting Airlangga. On many occasions, he said, Akbar also always came down to greet the public and promoted Airlangga as a candidate for president of the Golkar Party.

"Until now, Mr. Akbar (Tandjung) is still consistent in party decisions and actively participates in socializing the candidacy of Airlangga Hartarto from the Golkar Party," said Doli.

Previously, the Chairman of the Honorary Council of the Golkar Party's DPP, Akbar Tanjung, admitted that he supported Anies Baswedan to run as a presidential candidate. According to Akbar, Anies is one of the strong presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election.

"That's why I also wear a yellow shirt, because I also support him (Anies Baswedan) as a presidential candidate," said Akbar at the inauguration of the Tritura 66 Monument which was relocated to Menteng Park, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, October 5.
