Impact Of Kanjuruhan Tragedy To Sport Tourism, Sandiaga Uno Expects Evaluation So The U-20 World Cup Continues

JAKARTA - One of the tourism that is being developed by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) is sport tourism.

The development of sports tourism is said to have begun to increase in terms of achievements and ways of presenting sporting events that are packaged as attractions, entertainment, and tourism potential. In 2023, Indonesia is also scheduled to host the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Responding to the implementation of the U-20 World Cup with the Kanjuruhan Tragedy which killed 125 people, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno hopes that evaluations in various lines and international sports events in 2023 will continue to run comfortably and safely.

"We hope that this (Kanjuruhan Tragedy) will not make Indonesia a country that does not organize events properly because this is only one of thousands of sporting events that we do. This should also be a lesson for us to manage future events,” said Sandiaga in virtual 'The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno', Monday, October 3.

In the structure of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga explained that there are special deputies who handle events at the national, international, and regional levels.

Through the deputy, he continued, his party has provided guidance in organizing CHSE-based activities aka Cleanliness, Health, Safety, Environment Sustainability.

Furthermore, Sandiaga emphasized the principle of security as the most important thing in organizing an event.

"For me, as long as we can show the world that our safety is well maintained, then we hope the impact will not be sustainable, but the order from the President (Joko Widodo) to postpone Liga 1 during this evaluation we must do well," he said.

Sandiaga ensured that the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy would contribute to the evaluation of the Kanjuruhan Tragedy by conveying the standards for organizing the event so that it would not have an impact on the postponement of various world-class events. This is considering, among other things, the task of the government to help prepare the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Previously, regarding the completion of the Kanjuruhan Tragedy, the government formed an Independent Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGIPF) which was chaired directly by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD.

The former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court is targeting that TGIPF will work for the next 2-3 weeks to resolve the case that has caused deep sorrow in the world of national football.

As the Head of TGIPF, Mahfud said the main step at this time was to encourage the National Police to immediately identify the suspect in the Kanjuruhan Tragedy. "And asked the Police to evaluate the implementation of security in the local area," Mahfud told reporters, Monday, October 3.

On the one hand, a number of members of the DPR from across factions proposed the formation of a Special Committee (Pansus) to investigate the Kanjuruhan Tragedy.

Member of Commission III of the PKB Faction, Heru Widodo, who was one of the proposers of the Special Committee for the Kanjuruhan Tragedy, admitted that this discourse had been supported by eight DPR factions as of Monday, October 3 afternoon.

The factions that signed the support for the formation of this special committee included the PDI-P Faction, Golkar Party Faction, PKB Faction, Gerindra Faction, Democratic Faction, PAN Faction, NasDem Faction, and PKS Faction.

Heru said that his party would bring the signature of this support to the leadership of the DPR to be ratified in the DPR Plenary Meeting. "We hope that the Kanjuruhan Special Committee will be formed as soon as possible so that it can work quickly in the field," he said during a press conference at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Monday, October 3.
