JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has revitalized four schools by adding the concept of net zero carbon or carbon neutrality.

Based on information from the DKI Provincial Government's Instagram account, schools are placed as pioneers to move low-emission buildings. So, this will be an example of the future building for the younger generation.

"School buildings as a source of education and science are the pioneers of a big movement towards low-emissions buildings. This is what the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is trying to do through the DKI Jakarta Education Office by revitalizing 4 school buildings," wrote the @dkijakarta account, as reported on Tuesday, September 27.

The four schools in question are Duren Sawit 14 Elementary School, East Jakarta; Grogol Selatan State Elementary School, South Jakarta; Ragunan State Elementary School 08 am, 09 am, and 11 pm, South Jakarta; and 96 State Senior High School Jakarta.

The DKI Provincial Government explained that low-emissions buildings can save operations because most of their energy needs are supplied from renewable energy sources. Thus, the carbon emissions produced are minimal.

In addition to the urgency to go to low-emissions buildings, the DKI Provincial Government sees the need for healthy buildings in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This can be a preventive and mitigating effort to spread COVID-19, especially office clusters, family clusters, residential clusters, or in-building clusters.

"Prevention through building and environmental changes is a safe and healthy place," he wrote.

Furthermore, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government stated that the rehabilitation of public school buildings in Jakarta overall leads to the concept of green building, starting from the energy transition to wastewater management.
