Observer: The Formation Of Colonel Council Confirms That PDIP Is Steady In Carrying Puan For The 2024 Presidential Candidate

JAKARTA - A number of DPR members from the PDIP faction formed a team called the Colonel Council to support DPR Chair Puan Maharani running as a presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election (Pilpres).

Political communication observer at Esa Unggul University, Jamiluddin Ritonga, said that the formation of the Colonel Council emphasized that PDIP was determined to support Puan Maharani as a presidential candidate in 2024.

"The formation of this Colonel Council was automatically recognized and approved by Bambang Pacul, who is also the Chairman of Bappilu DPP PDIP. If Bambang Pacul approves, of course it is with the blessing of Puan Maharani," said Jamiluddin, Thursday, September 22.

Jamiluddin said PDIP DPP Chair Puan Maharani would definitely take a stand but the opposite was true for the Colonel Council. Efforts to seem to allow it can not be denied with the blessing of the Chairperson of the PDIP Megawati Soekarnoputri.

"So, Johan Budi, who has recently become a PDIP cadre and is a junior in the PDIP Faction, is certainly unlikely to dare to propose a Colonel Council if there is no green light from strategic PDIP officials," he said.

Therefore, Jamiluddin considered that the Colonel Council was deliberately formed to win Puan in the 2024 presidential election. This formation became a strong signal that PDIP would later nominate Puan as a presidential candidate.

"The reactiveness of Ganjar's volunteers indicates panic. They seem increasingly pessimistic that Ganjar will be promoted by the PDIP. Therefore, they are trying to fight back by bringing up a Corporal Dean," said Jamiluddin.

"They assume the Corporal Council is a reflection of the people who will vote for and win Ganjar. Meanwhile, they consider the Colonel Council a reflection of an elite who is easily defeated," he added.

If the Colonel Council and the Corporal Council later fight, Jamiluddin added, the PDIP vote will certainly be divided. Of course, it would not be beneficial for both Puan and Ganjar if they both came from different boats.

"The battle of the two councils is certainly interesting to follow. Can the Corporal Council outperform the Colonel Council, let time tell?" Jamiluddin concluded.
