Bengkulu Governor Asked The Head Of The Regional Data For Damage As A Result Of Floods

BENGKULU - The Bengkulu Provincial Government held a meeting with Commission V of the House of Representatives (DPR) RI related to the conditions and infrastructure proposals to deal with floods in Bengkulu Province and asked the regional head to collect data on infrastructure damage due to the floods that occurred.

Bengkulu Governor Rohidin Mersyah said the flooding in Bengkulu was caused by the upstream area sending water and materials downstream or estuary.

"The flow of water from upstream causes the river to become silted and the river body is unable to accommodate the water discharge, so it overflows and floods occur", said Rohidin at the Bengkulu City Hall of Mercy, Antara, Friday, September 2.

The data on the type of infrastructure damaged by the flood, the affected families, and the logistical needs needed after the flood will be allocated to recipients of assistance from the Ministry of Social Affairs.

Meanwhile, to overcome these problems, the government will take action downstream by dredging rivers and estuaries so that siltation does not occur, such as making a retention pond that aims to accommodate water that is not accommodated in the river and water from the retention pond is pumped and flowed into the Bengkulu River.

Then the government will build and repair irrigation canals because currently there is some damaged irrigation.

Rohidin continued, that in the development, his party together with representatives of the Ministry of PUPR will submit a development proposal to the central government.

On the other hand, Deputy Chairman of Commission V DPR, Andi Iwan Darmawan Aras, emphasized that his party would synchronize the issue with the available budget in the central government.

Because the budget from the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) for handling floods is very minimal.

"We are trying to overcome the flood problem in Bengkulu", he said.
