JAKARTA - Russia's air defense system in Crimea is being reconfigured, to be able to neutralize Ukraine's drone, State Council Chair Vladimir Konstantinov said on the Solovyov Live channel on Wednesday.

"There is a 'drone terrorism system'. Just a year ago no one thought about it, that it will be the main thing one day," said Konstantinov, launching TASS on Aug. 31.

"Air defense is configured to counter heavy weapons, aircraft, missiles, and so on. It is now being reorganized," continued Konstantinov.

He stressed that since 2014 extensive work has taken place in Crimea, to thwart Kyiv's attempts to carry out terrorist attacks.

"Everyone is alert. And there is no panic. We believe the Black Sea Fleet. There are certain difficulties. New methods of war drive new tasks," added Konstantinov.

It is known that Crimea and Sevastopol have been attacked several times in recent weeks.

However, Russia's air defense system managed to intercept most of the weapons fired by the Ukrainian military on the peninsula.

Most recently, at least four explosions hit an area near Russia's main military airport on the Crimean peninsula on Thursday, three local sources said, while pro-Moscow officials said no damage had occurred.

Sources said the explosion occurred around Belbek's (air) base, north of Sevastopol, as reported by Reuters. Earlier, Russia accused the sabotage of a series of explosions in the Crimea ammunition warehouse two days earlier.

In the previous week, the explosion also rocked the Saky airbase area in Crimea, with Moscow saying it was caused by an accident.
