Anies Explains Comparison Of Work When He Was Minister Of Education And Culture And Governor of DKI

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan compared the work patterns during his tenure as regional head in the Capital City with the Minister of Education and Culture.

Before serving as Governor of DKI, Anies served as Minister of Education and Culture from 2014 to 2016 in the Working Indonesia Cabinet led by President Joko Widodo.

This was conveyed by Anies at the Urban 20 (U20) Mayors Summit which was attended by city delegates representing G20 members from several countries at the Fairmont Hotel, Central Jakarta.

"If I may share my experiences when I was Minister of Education and Culture", said Anies, Tuesday, August 30.

When he became Minister of Education and Culture, Anies admitted that he mostly dealt with administrative issues regarding education policy in Indonesia.

"At that time, we discussed issues related to policy. We discussed several challenges throughout Indonesia and made sure that the policy was the right one. We also dealt with a lot of paper", said Anies.

Meanwhile, while serving as the Governor of DKI, Anies was more often face-to-face with the people in the areas he led. He also admitted that he often encounters uniqueness in the problems he faces.

"When I was governor of DKI Jakarta, I dealt with the public more than paper. We deal with more real problems that people feel every day. That is a unique difference", he said.

For information, the U20 Mayors Summit forum is a space for U20 city leaders to gather, strengthen collaboration and submit recommendations to the Indonesian government at the G20 Leaders Summit which will take place in Bali on November 15-16, 2022.

This year's U20, with Jakarta and West Java as hosts, will focus on issues and challenges faced by cities due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So the theme raised is "Post-pandemic City".

In this fifth U20, regional heads and governors are members of the G20 to work together in three main areas, namely investment in health and public housing as the basis for social economic recovery for all.

Second, promote a sustainable energy transition and equitable access to sustainable mobility. Third, provide education and training about the future of workers for equal access to the job market for all.
