Weekend Ahead, BMKG Asks NTB Residents To Beware Of Strong Winds Risking Trees Falling

NTB - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reminded residents to be aware of the potential for strong winds in the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province this weekend.

"The potential for strong winds to occur in 10 regencies/cities in NTB," said BMKG forecaster for the Zaenudin Abdul Majid Lombok Meteorological Station, Ari Wibianto, in his official statement in Praya, NTB, Friday, August 5.

The potential for strong winds occurs in the area of Mataram City, West Lombok Regency, North Lombok, Central Lombok, East Lombok. In addition, in the districts of Sumbawa, West Sumbawa, Bima, Dompu and the City of Bima.

Therefore, BMKG urges the public to remain alert to the impact of disasters that can be caused by the strong winds, such as roofs that fly easily, fallen trees, and damage to other public facilities.

"Stay cautious when there are strong winds," he said, according to Antara.

In addition, the BMKG appealed to residents to be aware of high waves reaching 2 meters in the northern and southern parts of the Lombok strait, the Sape Strait to the Indian Ocean in the waters of NTB.

"Residents must be aware of high waves that can reach 2 meters or more with wind speeds of 27 knots in NTB waters," he said.

BMKG also stated that the risk of shipping is quite high due to the impact of high waves, so fishermen are expected not to go to sea to anticipate the impact of extreme weather which is predicted to occur this week.

"Residents on the coast in the NTB region remain alert to the impact of the waves that will occur," he said.
