JAKARTA - Ukraine expects UK support to continue even though Prime Minister Boris Johnson has resigned, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's office said Thursday.

In addition, he believes British support will remain, but President Zelensky called Boris Johnson a differentiator, in his second conversation by telephone.

"We all heard this news (of Johnson's resignation) with sadness. Not only me but also the entire Ukrainian people, who sympathize with you very much", President Zelensky's office said in a statement.

"We have no doubt that United Kingdom support will be maintained, but your personal leadership and charisma make it special", he said.

Boris Johnson is known to have visited Kyiv twice after the Russian invasion which began on February 24. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba described him as a 'true Ukrainian friend'.

"He (Johnson) was one of the first world leaders to not only firmly condemn Russia's brutal invasion of Ukraine but also made several important decisions to help Ukraine defend itself and ultimately win this war in the future", Kuleba said.

Separately, as previously reported, Russia greeted Boris Johnson's setback with 'like' while criticizing the decision to defend Kyiv.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakharova said the fall of Boris Johnson was a symptom of Western setbacks, which she said were divided by political, ideological, and economic crises.

"The moral of this story is: don't try to destroy Russia. Russia can't be destroyed. You can break your teeth on it and then choke", Zakharova quipped.

Not only that, Zakharova happily described him as the author of her own fall.
