KUPANG - Tenau-Kupang Maritime Meteorology Station, Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that medium and high sea waves have the potential to hit the sea waters of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) for the next three days.

"Medium (1.25-2.5 meters) and high (2.5-4 meters) waves have the potential to hit most of the waters in NTT, so boat operators and fishermen need to be wary of them," said the Head of the Tenau-Kupang Maritime Meteorological Station BMKG Syaeful Hadi in Kupang, Monday, June 11.

He said this was related to the weather forecast in the sea waters of NTT for the next three days (June 14-16).

He mentioned that sea waters with the potential for moderate waves include the eastern part of the Sumba Strait, the northern part of the Sawu Sea, the Alor-Pantar Strait, and the northern waters of Kupang-Rote.

Meanwhile, those that have the potential to be hit by high waves are the western part of the Sumba Strait, the southern Indian Ocean of Sumba-Sabu, the southern part of the Sawu Sea, the southern waters of Kupang-Rote, and the southern Indian Ocean of Kupang-Rote.

Meanwhile, two other points of the seawater area have the potential for low waves (0.5-1.5 meters), namely the northern waters of Flores and the Flores-Lamakera Strait.

Quoted by Antara, Syaeful Hadi said that the potential for high waves needs to be watched out for because it poses a high risk to ferries, barges, and fishing boats or boats.

For that, he said, ship operators and fishermen need to pay close attention to the potential for high waves for safety and smooth sailing.

He added, in addition, synoptic conditions indicate that the wind generally blows from the Northeast to the Southeast at a speed of 2-6 on the Beaufort Scale.

Syaeful Hadi appealed to the public to continue to monitor the development of weather information in the waters to prepare a safe and smooth shipping plan.
