JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, held a virtual meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy to discuss conditions in Ukraine, especially regarding residents who were displaced due to war.

"What is the current situation of the refugees and how is the Ukrainian government dealing with this," said Muhaimin in a statement received in Jakarta, Saturday, May 28.

The virtual meeting of the two took place in a forum organized by the Indonesian International Relations Community and Southeast Asia Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI), as broadcast on the FPCI YouTube channel, Friday 27 May.

In the forum entitled "From Heart-to-Heart: President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy Greets Indonesia", Muhaimin also asked about the attitude of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and European Union countries, in particular on the fate of Ukrainian citizens who become victims of war.

According to Muhaimin, a direct explanation from President Zelenskyy regarding the condition of Ukraine is important because so far information regarding the conditions of the Ukraine-Russia war that has reached Indonesia is still confusing.

"How is the involvement of NATO and also the European Union countries regarding the issue of refugees. Are they ready to provide support for the refugees," he added.

Muhaimin added that so far he has admitted that he has been actively campaigning for world peace and asked Russia to immediately end its invasion of Ukraine.

He has also met with the Ukrainian Ambassador to Indonesia Vasyl Hamianin and the Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Lyudmila Vorobieva to seek peace between the two countries.
