Investigation Of Kylian Mbappe Rape Case Stopped By Swedish Prosecutor
JAKARTA - French football star lawyer Kylian Mbappe said Swedish prosecutors canceled an investigation into rape and sexual harassment of his client.
The Real Madrid striker and France's national team have denied wrongdoing in the alleged rape case at a hotel in downtown Stockholm on October 10.
The prosecutor has not publicly announced the suspect's name in the case. The prosecutor only said that his party canceled the investigation because there was not enough evidence.
"I confirm," wrote Mbappe's lawyer Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard, via text message when asked by Reuters.
In a statement previously issued, Swedish Senior Prosecutor Marina Chirakova said in the investigation that there were people suspected of being on the grounds of reasonable reasons for raping and two cases of sexual violence.
"But my assessment is that the evidence is not enough to continue and therefore the investigation is closed," he said.
Swedish court documents obtained by Reuters show the victim decided not to engage further in the investigation, prompting the prosecution to cancel the investigation.

"The evidence obtained in the investigation is not enough to complete a preliminary investigation considering the plaintiff no longer wants to participate in the investigation," Chirakova wrote in a decision submitted to the Stockholm District Court.
Swedish public broadcaster SVT and daily Expressen and Aftonbladet, citing unnamed sources, reported in October Mbappe suspected of being suspects in the case.
Mbappe's representative said at the time the accusations against him were "completely wrong" and the "rumor" was slander.
