JAKARTA - The fugitive in the car rental business fraud case, Christopher Steffanus Budianto alias Steven, is known to have moved the country during his escape. From the initial examination, the reason the suspect did it was to find work.
"If the person concerned said, while the results of the interview, the person concerned wanted to work or business in the country," said Head of Sub-Directorate for Ranmor of the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Metro Jaya Police, Kompol Yuliansyah to reporters, Wednesday, November 22.
To the Christopher investigators, it was argued that the money obtained from the work or business would be collected. Then, it is intended as payment for compensation for the victims.
"So the person concerned is trying to find one work that can raise a number of funds to be returned to the victims in Jakarta," he said.
The work or business in question is still around vehicle rental. However, the truth of the reason will still be investigated.
"The person concerned is carrying out business there, it is still related to vehicle rental activities," said Yuliansyah.
Christopher Steffanus Budianto alias Steven is known to often move countries during his escape. Almost all countries in ASEAN were used as hiding places.
The escape of Christopher began in May 2022. Singapore became the first country he visited.
Then, based on the crossing data received, Christopher is known to have gone back and forth between Singapore and Thailand. However, it was not explained how many times the suspect moved.
It was only conveyed that there were several countries that had also been used as hiding places.
"From Singapore, the suspect often goes back and forth between Bangkok and Hong Kong, has also been to Vietnam. That's what we will explore," he said.
