BPS: Air Transport Contributes Highest Inflation In Manokwari

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of West Papua Province said air transportation was the highest contributor to annual inflation or year on year (yoy) in Manokwari Regency with a 0.97 percent stake in October 2023.

Head of the General Section of West Papua BPS, Audhy Valentino, said that other commodities that contributed to annual inflation were rice (0.57 percent), skipjack fish (0.49 percent), filter cigarettes (0.40 percent), and tomatoes (0.39 percent).

"Of the five main contributor commodities to inflation in Manokwari, air transportation is the highest," said Valentino, quoted from ANTARA, Thursday, November 2.

He explained that the annual inflation rate in Manokwari in October 2023 was 4.52 percent lower than the same period in 2022 of 4.92 percent (yoy).

Inflation is influenced by an increase in the price index of 11 expenditure groups with the highest three, namely transportation 8.81 percent (yoy), food and beverages 7.29 percent (yoy), and the food and beverage supply group 5.49 percent (yoy).

"Manokwari is ranked fifth out of 90 IHK cities in Indonesia. In the Sulampua region (Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua), Manokwari is in third place," explained Valentino.

On a monthly basis (month to month/mtm), he said, Manokwari experienced inflation of 0.06 percent (mtm) in October 2023 higher than the conditions in September 2023 due to deflation of 1.7 percent (mtm).

The transportation group contributed to monthly inflation of 2.57 percent (mtm) followed by a personal care group of 0.09 percent (mtm), a housing group of 0.08 percent (mtm), and others.

"If it's monthly, there are three groups of expenses that have deflation, namely information and communication, equipment, and food and beverage groups," said Valentino.

He said there were five main contributor commodities to monthly inflation in Manokwari in October 2023 including 0.29 percent of air transportation, 0.17 percent of cayenne pepper, 0.10 percent of yellow tail fish, 0.08 percent of tomatoes, and 0.05 percent of skipjack tuna.

Manokwari's monthly inflation in October 2023 ranked 15th out of 21 IHK cities in the areas of Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua.
