KPU-DPR Discusses PKPU Revision Of The Age Of Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates Tomorrow
Chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU) Hasyim Asy'ari said his party would attend a hearing with Commission II of the DPR, Tuesday (31/10), to discuss the revision of the KPU regulations to discuss the age limit for presidential and vice presidential candidates.
"The plan, Tuesday, tomorrow, October 31, 2023, will be held an RDP (AUDIence meeting) or consultation between the KPU, Commission II DPR, and the Government," said Hasyim Asy'ari as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, October 30.
According to Hasyim, the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) to amend Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections regarding the requirements for presidential and vice-presidential candidates also automatically changes the KPU (PKPU) regulations as a regulation under the law.
The judicial review of the norms in the Election Law has been carried out several times. One of them is related to the obligation of ministers and ministerial-level officials to resign from their positions if nominated as president and vice president.
"That is then a judicial review so that they simply apply for approval and permission from the president (to become presidential and vice-presidential candidates) and that there is also no revision of the law," he explained.
Meanwhile, regarding the lawsuit filed with the KPU because it was suspected of receiving registration for the presidential and vice-presidential candidates before changing the PKPU, Hasyim said his party was ready to fulfill the Central Jakarta District Court (PN) summons.
"If there is a trial call, we will attend the trial," he said.
VOIR éGALEMENT:
In the lawsuit, the chairman of the KPU should first consult with the DPR, through a hearing, to revise the PKPU before receiving Prabowo and Gibran registration files as candidates for the 2024 presidential election.
The PKPU change is considered necessary to adjust to the Constitutional Court's decision regarding the requirements for the presidential and vice presidential age limit.
