Attention! Mount Slamet In Alert Status
JAKARTA - The volcanic hazard status of Mount Slamet in Central Java rose from level I or normal to level II or alert today, Thursday 19 October.
"The seismicity recorded during October 1 to 18, 2023 was 2,096 gust earthquakes," said Head of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) Hendra Gunawan in a statement, Thursday, October 19. In addition to gust earthquakes, PVMBG also recorded three harmonic tremors, two deep volcanic earthquakes, 12 local tectonic earthquakes, seven distant tectonic earthquakes, and continuous tremor earthquakes with an amplitude of 0.2 to 6 millimeters or a dominant of 2 millimeters. On October 1, 2023, PVMBG recorded an increase in the amplitude of continuous tremors from 2 millimeters to 3 millimeters. Then, on October 18, 2023, a harmonic tremor earthquake was recorded with a maximum duration of about 1 hour 18 minutes. "The earthquake of Mount Slamet was marked by an increase in the persistent tremor amplitude followed by the recording of a harmonic tremor earthquake in a long duration," said Hendra. Continuous tremor earthquake amplitude shows an increase in groundwater heating in Mount Slamet's body at a shallow depth. Meanwhile, the harmonic tremor earthquake recorded in a long duration indicates an increase in the body of the volcano.
