UMM Survey: Mahfud MD Favorite Vice Presidential Candidate In East Java, Cak Imin's Electability Increases
The results of a survey by the Center for Political Science Studies at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) showed Mahfud MD being the favorite vice presidential candidate in the East Java region.
Head of the survey team for the UMM Political Sciences Center, Rully Inayah Ramadhoan, explained that based on the survey results of a closed question, Mahfud MD became the vice presidential candidate with the highest election rate.
"Prospective vice president in public mind based on closed questions, the highest is Mahfud MD with 19.4 percent," said Rully, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 18.
The simulation conducted by the UMM Center for Political Science Studies in East Java was carried out by involving 1,000 respondents in various areas proportionally spread across 100 urban villages or villages in 36 district cities.
The survey, he continued, was an independent scientific research funded independently by the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. In the survey, it has a "sampling error" of approximately 3.1 percent.
Rully explained that based on the results of the survey conducted in September 2023, another figure who has the potential to become a vice presidential candidate is the Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa who received 14.5 percent of the votes.
Then followed by former West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil at 11.1 percent and Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno at 10.9 percent, Muhaimin Iskandar 10.2 percent, and Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir at ten percent.
"Then, other figures, namely Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, amounted to six percent, Yenny Wahid 4.5 percent, and Gibran Rakabuming 4.2 percent," he said.
When viewed from the age group, the generation aged 59-85 years chose Khofifah Indar Parawansa more than 16.8 percent, aged 43-58 years chose Mahfud MD at 21.5 percent, and aged 27-42 years chose Mahfud MD at 19.5 percent.
"Meanwhile, for generations aged 17-26 years, Ridwan Kamil chose 19 percent more," he said.
In the survey results, he continued, the trend of increasing electability was recorded by the General Chairperson of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar, which rose 5.8 percent to 10.9 percent in September compared to July 2023.

So far, there have been three names who will become presidential candidates in the 2024 General Election (Pemilu), namely Ganjar Pranomo, Prabowo Subianto, and Anies Baswedan.
Anies Baswedan has certainly stepped forward accompanied by Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin, while Ganjar Pranowo has just been announced in pairs with Mahfud MD, who currently serves as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam).
Currently, Prabowo Subianto remains who has not announced the prospective vice presidential candidate who will accompany him in the 2024 election contestation.
Based on the schedule set by the General Elections Commission (KPU), the registration of prospective presidential and vice presidential candidates is scheduled to start from October 19 to November 25, 2023.
