The Impact Of Long Drought, Denpasar BBMKG Urges The Public To Be Alert To Forest And Land Fires

JAKARTA - The Denpasar Region III Center for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BBMKG) asked the public to be aware of the potential for forest and land fires (karhutla) in Bali because of the widespread drought area.

"Be aware of the impact of the El Nino phenomenon, such as drought and potential forest and land fires and fallen trees," said Head of BBMKG Region III Denpasar Cahyo Nugroho, Sunday, October 1.

BBMKG Denpasar noted that the drought area in Bali extends from 14 points to the previous two to 15 points in Bali.

Areas in Bali that have the potential to experience drought because it does not rain in a row for up to 90 days, namely in Buleleng Regency, namely in Buleleng, Gerokgak, Kubu Added, Sawan, and Sukasada sub-districts.

Then in Jembrana Regency in Melaya District, Bangli Regency in Kintamani District, Karangasem Regency in Karangasem District and Kubu.

Furthermore, in Badung Regency in Kuta, North Kuta and Kuta Sekatan sub-districts, Klungkung Regency in Nusa Penida District and Denpasar City, namely in East Denpasar and South Denpasar Districts.

The sub-districts in Bali that did not rain for 90 days occurred in Kubu, then in Kubu it was added for 89 days, Kintamani and Gerokgak each had not rained in a row 84 days.

BBMKG Denpasar maps that in general the day without rain in Bali is still in the category of rain until extreme drought or more than 60 days without rain.

There is also distribution of rainfall in Bali in general up to 38.4 millimeters per 10 days.

Previously, the Mount Batur Nature Tourism Park area in Bangli Regency experienced a fire estimated to be due to drought on Saturday (2/9) with an estimated burned land area of around five hectares.

A fire also hit the slopes of the Bukit Kelinang forest in Kerta Mandala Village, Abang District, Karangasem with an estimated affected area of about one hectare on Monday (25/9).

Previously, BBMKG Denpasar estimated that the peak of the dry season in Bali would occur in July-August 2023 which was influenced by the El Nino phenomenon.

Based on the analysis of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) if it reaches more than 1, it is moderate intensity and will get drier.

El Nino's condition is estimated to reach 1.01 in the period June, July, August (JJA) 2023, then increased again in the period July August September 2023 (JAS), and August September October (ASO) reached 1.10.

Then gradually decreased until November December January (NDJ) reached 0.92.
