Meta Launches Web Version Threads, To Attract Professional Users

JAKARTA - Meta Platforms Inc., a company that owns Facebook and Instagram, announced on Tuesday 22 August that it will launch a web version of their new text-based social media platform, Threads.

This step was taken in an effort to keep professional users and outperform their competitor, platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

Threads users will be able to access this microblogging platform via websites from their computers, Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram announced.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a post on Threads that this version of the web will reach users "in the next few days."

This highly anticipated launch could help Threads gain wider acceptance among influential users such as brands, corporate accounts, advertisers, and journalists, who can now take advantage of this platform with larger screens.

Threads, which managed to reach more than 100 million registrations for its app within five days of its launch on July 5, experienced a decline in popularity as users returned to a more familiar platform, X, after the initial phase of the user surge.

Within a little more than a month, the number of daily active users on the Android version of the Threads app fell to 10.3 million from its peak of 49.3 million, according to a report from analytics platform Similarweb published on August 10.

The company plans to add more functionality to its web experience in the coming weeks, Meta said.
