7 Indonesian Navy Ships Entered The Rejuvenation Stage

Deputy Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy (Wakasal) Vice Admiral (Laksdya) TNI Ahmadi Heri Purwono said that the planned rejuvenation of 41 Indonesian Navy ships is still in progress and this year there are seven ships entering the rejuvenation stage.

He said the ship renovation project was under the control of the Ministry of Defense. Meanwhile, the Navy in the work is tasked with coordinating and preparing ships that enter rejuvenation.

"This is currently in process. I think everything is already working, and I see it is at several shipyards, divided at domestic shipyards. There are seven ships that are currently being worked on," said Laksdya Ahmadi in response to reporters' questions during a press conference after the handover ceremony for the two new tugboats of the Indonesian Navy at the Noahtu Shipyard Association, Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, reported by ANTARA, Monday, August 21.

He explained that the Indonesian Navy needed to regulate ships that were entering the rejuvenation or modernization stage, because the process was not allowed to reduce the operation and readiness of Indonesian Navy combat.

Our ship is also limited, of course. We will send ships by not reducing their operations at sea. This means that the ships that must operate in the sea, we are the Navy every day, there are 50 ships that have to sail in the sea to protect our waters. Even then, if 50 ships are deployed in the waters from Papua to Aceh, it is not visible, very small, very lacking our ships," said the Deputy Chief of Staff.

In the project to rejuvenate 41 Indonesian Navy ships, the Ministry of Defense appointed PT PAL Indonesia (Persero) as the main integrator (contractor). President Director of PT PAL Indonesia Kaharuddin Djenod in the company's official broadcast on November 2, 2022, explained that PT PAL does not only act as the sole contractor in the rejuvenation project, but is also tasked with exploring the potential of the maritime industry in Indonesia, especially domestic shipyards.

The Indonesian Navy ship rejuvenation project that is included in the cooperation contract of the Ministry of Defense and PT PAL includes Fast Patrol Boat (FPB) Class, Parchim Class, Corvet Fatahillah Class, PKR Class, KCR Class, Sigma Class and MRLF Bung Tomo Class.

The project, which takes place in a multi-year scheme, also includes aship conversion, the installation of a surface-to-surface-missile (SSM) missile, as well as the addition of an integrated weapon in the Combat Management System (CMS) as well as a re-powering system to restore human function and improve the performance of the main combat ship.

For warships such as KCR (missile speedboats) and PKR (destructive warships), the navigation and communication system will also be modernized.
