Puan Hopes For PDIP Relations With Jokowi Harmonious

Chairman of the PDI-P DPP Puan Maharani hopes that her party's relationship with the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo will always go well, following the assumption that Jokowi's signal of support is leaning towards Gerindra Party Chair Prabowo Subianto in the 2024 presidential election.

"We hope that the relationship between the president or Pak Jokowi and the PDI-P will always go well," said Puan as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, August 4.

Because, said Puan, President Jokowi as a PDI-P cadre has also been promoted by his party for two consecutive terms in the 2014 and 2019 presidential elections.

"What I can understand or I mean Pak Jokowi is the president who has been promoted twice and supported by the PDI-P," he said.

Initially, Puan was reluctant to respond to questions about the attitude of the DPP of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) which stated that she guided President Jokowi in determining the support for presidential candidates, but said there were similarities with the General Chairperson of the Gerindra Party, Prabowo Subianto.

"Yes, to Pak Jokowi, not to me," he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Secretary General for Internal Affairs of the PDI-P DPP Utut Adianto also hopes that President Jokowi will continue to support the PDI-P in the 2024 presidential election.

"If we certainly hope that Pak Jokowi will stick with the PDI-P, hope, hope," said Utut.

He said he could only hope because he could not fully capture the intention only from his surface attitude.

"If the heart, for example, goes there, who knows the ocean of the heart. The heart is as deep as the ocean, so we'll just have to wait," he added.

Utut was also reluctant to make assumptions and gave an assessment of President Jokowi's signal of support in the 2024 presidential election because as a president he must maintain neutrality in his political attitude.

"If I am in a position not to judge leaning or not, that Pak Jokowi is a cadre born from the womb of the PDI-P, of course he has a way. For example, supporting PDIP in what way, of course he as president can't do that right away," he said.

Previously, PSI received a visit from the presidential candidate from the Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto at the PSI DPP Office, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (2/8).

After a closed meeting, Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Board of Trustees Grace Natalie said there were similarities between her party and Prabowo.

"So, the conversation was warm, serious but relaxed, shared the vision and there were similarities that I found from PSI and Pak Prabowo," Grace said after receiving Prabowo's visit and the Gerindra Party group.

Some time before, PSI had stated that it was ready to support Ganjar Pranowo as a presidential candidate in the 2024 General Election, even as the front line.
