MMA: Tom Aspinall Aims For A Duel Against Ciryl Gane Before Heading To Jon Jones
JAKARTA British heavyweight fighter Tom Aspinall is excited after MENTKO Marcin Tybura in just one round at the UFC Fight Night in London, July 22, 2023. Now the 30-year-old fighter is eyeing the winner between Ciryl Gane vs Sergey Spivak, who will be held at the Paris UFC in September.
"But I think fighting Ciryl Gane will give more profit. I am following Michael Bisping's advice, to choose an opponent who has just failed to win a world championship. And that position rests with Ciryl. I hope he wins the duel against Spivak, so he will boost his position again," said Aspinall, as quoted by MMA Fighting.
Victory over Tybura, a fighter from Poland, is a revival for Aspinall. A year ago he slumped, losing to TKO in just one round in front of his London supporters from a declining United States fighter, Curtis Blaydes. At that time Aspinall's knee was injured, so he had to take a year off for healing.
Meanwhile, Gane is currently struggling to restore his confidence, having failed to win the UFC heavyweight title twice. In the first attempt, Gane lost to Francis Ngannou in the UFC 270 event at Anaheim, California, USA, January 22, 2022.
Gane also failed in his second attempt, after losing his first round of pition (submission) to Jon Jones, at UFC 285 in Las Vegas, Nevada, March 4, 2023. If you win against Spivak later, it will increase Gane's sense a little.
Aspinall once won over Spivak, a fighter from Moldova, through the first round of TKO in Las Vegas on September 4, 2021. So their duel was not too interesting to play in the near future.
