Mahfud MD Immediately Follows Up On The Plan For The Establishment Of A TPPU Task Force
Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD stated that his party would immediately follow up on the plan to establish a Money Laundering Crime Task Force (TPPU Task Force).Mahfud, who is also the Chairman of the National Coordination Committee for Prevention and Eradication of TPPU, said that the plan to form the task force was in accordance with the results of a meeting with Commission III of the DPR RI recently regarding the findings of suspicious transactions at the Ministry of Finance which was revealed by the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK)."Tomorrow it will be held in a meeting because it is the result of the RDP (a hearing meeting, ed.), a task force must be formed. Tomorrow the task force will be formed," said Mahfud when delivering a media statement at the Kemenkopolhukam Office, Jakarta, Antara, Thursday, April 27.The former chairman of the 2008-2013 Constitutional Court added that the TPPU Task Force would then follow up on their work based on data on the findings of suspicious transactions of around Rp. 349 trillion at the Ministry of Finance in mid 2009-2023.The data, continued Mahfud, has been revealed to the public and submitted to Commission III of the DPR through RDP some time ago.The TPPU Task Force will involve many government institutions as well as experts from outside the government as resource persons to answer concerns about the effectiveness of the task force. Mahfud continued, based on the law on case investigations regarding taxes and customs, it is the authority of the Ministry of Finance through the Directorate General of Taxes and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise.It was realized that Mahfud raised concerns about the effectiveness of the task force, but he stressed that the involvement of other institutions would make the assessment of the findings more objective."Indeed, many people 'wah, oranges eat oranges. It's not because later it will involve many institutions and from outside we invite them as resource persons," he said.Mahfud emphasized that the capacity is in accordance with regulations because judicial action can only be carried out by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, Directorate General of Taxes, Police, or the Prosecutor's Office.
"But later the committee will expand so that the assessment will consist of several institutions so that the assessment will be more objective," he said.
