Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo was honored that the United Development Party (PPP) declared himself a candidate for the 2024 presidential election. Even so, for the proposed Vice President Ganjar did not want to rush. According to him, the support provided by PPP against him was a form of cooperation between the parties carrying Ganjar so that he would be a presidential candidate. "I express my gratitude because some time ago (the party) Hanura also gave support; and yesterday afternoon, yes, PPP also declared support to me," added the two-term Central Java governor. Ganjar said that it was still being discussed by political parties. "Later, wait for the party," he added. PPP officially carries Ganjar Pranowo as a candidate for the 2024 presidential election.Plt. General Chairperson of PPP Mardiono said Ganjar Pranowo's name was promoted as a candidate for the 2024 General Election in accordance with the decision of the National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas) PPP Number 05/04/Rapimnas/5/2023. To note, the registration of candidates for presidential and vice presidential candidates is scheduled for October 19 to November 25, 2023.

Based on Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections (UU Elections), pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates are proposed by political parties or coalitions of political parties participating in the election who meet the requirements for obtaining seats of at least 20 percent of the total seats in the DPR or obtaining 25 percent of the nationally valid votes in the previous election of DPR members. Currently, there are 575 seats in parliament, so that pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election must have at least 115 seats in the DPR RI. It is also possible that candidate pairs are promoted by political parties or coalitions of political parties participating in the 2019 Election with a total valid vote acquisition of at least 34,992,703 votes.
