NFT Maker Mimic Shhans, Blocks Social Media Posts in Chinese, Here's the Reason

JAKARTA - According to a Twitter post dated December 11, SHHAN, creator of the black cat nonfungible tokens (NFT) collection Mimic Shhans, explained to users why he has blocked posts on the community's social page written in Chinese.

The move came after users condemned the new measure as discriminatory. According to SHHAN, who is based in South Korea, but made a Chinese post to specifically address this issue.

"That's because I previously announced on Twitter and Discord that my team is trying to enter the North American market. Therefore, I advise everyone to use English when responding to Twitter posts. Why this? Because when I talk to North American holders (of our NFT), they told us that the comments on Mimic's Twitter page were almost exclusively in Chinese, so it was very difficult for them to experience the culture of the Mimic community," said SHHAN.

SHHAN explains that he previously posted on the Discord community recommending users speak English but "most people don't seem to follow it."

The artist later reiterated that he sees the European and North American consumer markets as important for the upcoming Shhan Metaverse dubbed "Shhanverse" and hopes users "switch to more international English to talk about the project."

Launched in October, Mimic Shhans features “cute black cats” NFTs dressed in various costumes and imprinted on the Ethereum blockchain.

SHHAN revealed that the collection is very popular in China, with the majority of NFT holders based in the country. The project currently has 2,001 holders in OpenSea with 285 Ether (ETH) in traded volume since its inception.
