Game Sales Are Low, Roblox Plans To Sell 3D Ads On Its Platform
JAKARTA - The inflation that is sweeping the world and the COVID-19 pandemic that has not yet ended has made it difficult for a number of technology companies. Moreover, they cannot "mine" the large income from the sale of their products alone.
Online gaming company Roblox Corp finally announced on Friday, September 9 that it plans to launch a 3D ad on its platform next year. This is because the company is trying to diversify its revenue streams beyond game purchases.
The decision will test ad developers and some advertisers later this year to create 3D ads that should be able to attract potential buyers. The experience of 3D ads, better known as immersive advertising, will only reach viewers aged 13 and over, Roblox said.
The announcement comes at a time when the economy is deteriorating and continues to undermine the advertising industry, including giants like Snap Inc and Facebook owner Meta Platforms who claim to be heavily affected by it.

California-based Roblox, known for its "Jailbreak" and "MeepCity" games, has been struggling as schools in the US reopen after lockdowns were imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The lockdown and very high inflation they feel hinders user spending.
To combat declining demand, Roblox has doubled its "metaverse", a virtual space where players can do everything from hanging out and chatting to shopping and attending concerts.
Currently, they make most of their revenue from their virtual currency "Robux", which children use to upgrade player avatars by buying in-game items such as accessories or pets.
