Ukraine Identifies 600 Russian Citizens Suspected Of War Crimes, 80 Of Whom Are On Trial

JAKARTA - Ukraine has identified more than 600 Russian citizens suspected of war crimes, and about 80 of them have already been put on trial. This was stated by the Attorney General of Ukraine Iryna Venediktova.

"The list of suspects includes "high-ranking military officials, politicians, and agents of Russian propaganda," he said at a press conference in The Hague, Netherlands, reported by Antara, Wednesday, June 1st.

Venediktova said Estonia, Latvia, and Slovakia had decided to join the international investigation team in Ukraine.

The team was originally formed by Ukraine, Lithuania, and Poland in March to conduct information exchange and investigations into alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.

They worked alongside the International Criminal Court (ICC), which started an investigation into alleged war crimes in Ukraine in early March.

ICC prosecutor Karim Khan has deployed a team of 42 investigators, forensic experts, and support personnel to Ukraine.

He said Tuesday that the ICC was seeking the opening of an office in Kyiv to support the investigation.

Venediktova said international support was essential for Ukraine to investigate all possible war crimes.

"We have to collect and protect all things in the right way. The evidence must be admissible in any court," he said.

Russia denies targeting civilians or engaging in war crimes during its aggression, which it describes as a "special military operation" in Ukraine.
