Hanoi SEA Games Final Standings Approaching The Last Day: The Indonesian Contingent Meets President Jokowi's Expectations

JAKARTA - The hope of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) for the Indonesian contingent at the 2021 SEA Games has finally been fulfilled. The Red and White Team occupies the top three positions in the final medal standings.

Until the match on May 22 ended, the Indonesian contingent collected 69 gold, 92 silver, and 80 bronze medals. The last gold was won by the PUBG Indonesia 2 team and Janis Rosalita Suprianto (swimming).

The achievement of the Indonesian contingent is better when compared to the results of the 2019 Philippines SEA Games, which finished fourth. Previously, Indonesia only occupied the top five positions.

However, there are some sports that are not able to meet the medal target. One of them is pencak silat. The target of four gold for the traditional Indonesian martial arts branch turned out to be only one gold.

Different results came from the Olympic sports. Rowing, canoeing, shooting, and archery can become a golden barn for the Indonesian contingent, as reported by Antara.

Surprises also occurred in Uncle Ho's country from the swimming pool that gave birth to new champions, namely Masniari Wolf (16 years) and Flairene Candrea (17 years). These two teenagers won gold in their debut match and broke the gold shortage of Indonesian women's swimmers.

The same goes for men's basketball. The Indonesian national team succeeded in winning gold after defeating the defending champion Philippines in the last 13 games, which has dominated the podium 13 times in the biennial championship.
