Andy Murray Gets Wildcard To Appear In Madrid Open 2022

JAKARTA - Tennis player Andy Murray will appear in the Mandri Open 2022 clay tournament in early May. The 34-year-old athlete came to this championship after being given a wildcard.

Previously, Murray announced in February that he would miss the entire claycourt season, including the French Open grand slam tournament. However, he is now back in training on the pitch.

Murray has won the Madrid Open twice. One of them included a win over the host's tennis player Rafael Nadal in 2015.

This year's Madrid Open will start on April 26. Last year's tournament was won by Alexander Zverev who beat the host's Matteo Berrettini in the final.

The Madrid Open will be Murray's first competitive event since his last in March. At that time he lost to world number two Daniil Medvedev in the second round of the Miami Open.

After appearing in Madrid, the owner of three grand slam titles has the potential to appear in other clay tournaments. One of the closest is the Italian Open in Rome which will be held a week later.

However, he is expected to focus on preparing for Wimbledon rather than the French Open, which starts in May.
