Drug Rehabilitation For Prisoners Back To Active In Palu Prison

PALU - The drug rehabilitation program at the Class II A prison in Palu is active again. The program was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As many as 50 inmates with narcotics abuse cases participated in the program and stayed for six months in a drug rehabilitation house.

"Monday to Saturday they will undergo a rehabilitation process," explained the head of the Palu Class II A prison, Gamal Bardi in Palu, Friday, March 25, quoted from Antara.

This drug rehabilitation development program is in collaboration with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of Central Sulawesi in the prevention and eradication of drugs.

This social rehabilitation program, said Gamal, has been running since 2021 and was attended by 30 residents assisted by the Palu Prison.

"It was stopped because of the pandemic and we started again. It is possible to increase the number of assisted residents who participate depending on the budget," he explained.

While in the drug rehabilitation home, the inmates will be given an understanding of the dangers of drugs, their impacts and threats to their families and the surrounding environment.

The inmates who have completed six months of rehabilitation will be placed in the prison pilot block.

“It is certain that the pilot block is free from cell phones and drugs. They will be agents for other inmates,” he said.

While in the rehabilitation house, the inmates also receive skills training. Currently, what has been carried out is painting, making aromas and making ornamental plants.

"This positive activity will also help get rid of their addiction and the works they have produced are many," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Central Sulawesi National Narcotics Agency, Brigadier General Pol Monang Situmorang, added that the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) of Central Sulawesi agreed to implement a program for prisons and detention centers that were free from drugs (Bersinar).

"We have held a meeting to discuss the program to make prisons and detention centers free from drugs," he said when contacted on Friday.

BNN also appreciates the steps taken by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in helping to eradicate drugs in prisons. "We appreciate and hope that this cooperation will continue to be well established," said Monang.
