Foxconn and Pegatron in Taiwan have stopped production of iPhones from Apple at their factories near Chennai, southern India, due to heavy rains. This was said by four sources who were familiar with the problem on Monday, December 4.
Heavy rains hit the city of Chennai in Tamil state of Nadu, the main electronics and manufacturing center, where floodwater swept through cars and closed its airport as Typhoon Michaung headed towards the coast of neighboring state, Andhra Pradesh.
According to two sources, Foxconn, who employs about 35,000 people at its Tamil Nadu iPhone plant, has yet to decide whether to resume production on Tuesday, December 5.
Foxconn is rapidly expanding its presence in India by investing in manufacturing sites in the southern part of the country as Apple seeks areas to move parts of production from China.

Apple recorded its highest quarterly shipment from India in the quarter ending September with more than 2.5 million units, this was shown by data from market analytics firm Counterpoint Research.
