Take A Peek At The Microsoft Mouse From Recycled Plastic Waste In The Ocean

JAKARTA - Over the years, Microsoft has made a lot of amazing mice. But today's announcement focuses on recycling and sustainability, not the innovative scroll wheel control.

Citing Engadget, Thursday, September 23, the Microsoft Ocean Plastic Mouse is the company's unique new product because it has a shell made of 20 percent marine recycled plastic and packaging that is 100 percent recyclable.

The recycled waste is taken from oceans and waterways which is processed into resin pellets. The pellets are added to other materials used to make mouse shells.

To make the resin used in the shell of the Ocean Plastic Mouse, Microsoft collaborated with Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), which is a subsidiary of Saudi Aramco.

The small box where the mouse comes in is made of recyclable wood and cane fiber. Microsoft also mentioned a free promotion so people can send their old mouse in for recycling.

Ocean Plastic Mouse promises up to 12 months of battery life from just one replaceable or rechargeable AA battery. Owners can customize its three buttons via the downloadable Mouse and Keyboard Center software. The mouse also supports Swift Pair to help connect it to the user's computer and is equipped with Bluetooth 4.0.

Microsoft says the Ocean Plastic Mouse marks a small step forward on a greater sustainability journey. Earlier in August 2020, Microsoft in its pledge said it would pursue its goal of zero-waste operations by 2030 and end the use of single-use plastics in packaging by 2025.
