JAKARTA - Website hosting service GoDaddy Inc. on Friday September 3 discontinued a service for owners of an anti-abortion website that allowed people to report suspected abortions in Texas.

"Last night we notified prolifewhistleblower.com that they have violated GoDaddy's terms of service and have 24 hours to move to another provider," the company said in a statement.

Texas has imposed a near-total ban on abortion, which took effect Wednesday morning. They leave enforcement to citizens, allowing them to sue anyone who provides or "assisted or abetted" an abortion after six weeks. Citizens who win such lawsuits will be entitled to at least US$10,000.

The section of the website that allows people to submit anonymous tips about suspected abortions on Friday, September 3, shows a GoDaddy notice saying the site has been locked down.

Texas Right to Life, the anti-abortion group that owns the website, said in a statement it could not be silenced because of it, adding that it would re-install its website.

"Our IT team is in the process of transferring our assets to another provider and we will restore the site within 24-48 hours," a spokesperson for the group said.
