JAKARTA - In June, YouTube announced that it would be bringing the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) feature to iOS users, and now it looks like it's real and usable.

Although this feature is still limited to Premium subscribers, aka in the trial period. However, testing for Premium users will continue until October 31. Unfortunately, YouTube doesn't have a timeline to share when all iOS users will get that access.

The Picture-in-Picture feature is known to give users the ability to watch videos in PiP format while browsing other applications. This feature will only be present in the mobile app. Premium subscribers must enable the ability to test it via the YouTube experiment website on desktop.

Last year, YouTube made user participation in the experiment an advantage of its Premium service. If you've already opened the experiment website, then try scrolling down the screen, you'll see a “Picture-in-Picture in iOS” column with the option to try it out.

The user will be asked to log in to their account. Then, while watching a YouTube video, simply exit the app using the home button or by swiping up and Picture-in-Picture will start.

Keep in mind, locking the phone screen while watching PiP will pause the video, but the user can resume it via the lock screen media controls.

After viewing videos through this feature, users can adjust where the video with PiP will be placed and how large the screen is displayed. When a user clicks on a video, they will return to the YouTube app.

Some users have also been able to activate the feature on iPad and iPhone, but it doesn't seem so perfect. This is reasonable because it is still in the testing phase. As promised in June, YouTube will also bring the feature to all users, not just paid users. This is quoted from The Verge, Tuesday, August 31.
