Check The Schedule For When The Shadowless Day Phenomenon Occurs In Indonesian Territory

JAKARTA - In a few days, the sun will be directly above Indonesia. This phenomenon is also often called the "Day Without Shadows". In fact, it has happened twice in the country, within one year.

Previously, Shadowless Day occurred from late February to early April. Now, according to a report by the Research Center for Science and Space, the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN), Andi Pangerang, this phenomenon will occur again on September 6 to October 21.

"When the sun's position is above Indonesia, there is no shadow formed by an upright, hollow object at midday, so this phenomenon can be called a day without a sun's shadow," Andi said in a statement quoted by VOI from Antara, Sunday, August 29.

Indonesia is known to stretch from 6 degrees north latitude to 11 degrees south latitude and is divided by the equator. Due to the geographical location, the phenomenon of the Day Without Shadows occurs

Andi explained, the phenomenon of Day Without Shadows always occurs twice a year for cities or regions that lie between two lines, namely the Tropic of Cancer: 23.4 degrees North Latitude) and the Tropic of Capricorn: 23.4 degrees south latitude).

Andi emphasized that cities located right on the Tropic of Cancer will only experience the Day of No Shadow once a year, namely when the June Solstice for the Tropic of Cancer and December Solstice for the Tropic of Cancer.

Outside of these three regions, the Sun will not be at the zenith at noon throughout the year, but slightly tilted south for the northern hemisphere and slightly tilted north for the southern hemisphere.

Not to be missed, Andi also shared a few tips and ways for people who want to observe the seconds without a shadow. Namely, by using an upright object such as a stick, marker, or other objects that can be stood up.

Place the object on a flat surface and then observe according to the predetermined hours per region. Specifically for the DKI Jakarta area, this phenomenon can be observed on October 9 at 11:39 am. While the earliest will occur in the Sabang area on September 6, at 12:36.45 WIB. The following is a list of regions and times where the Day Without Shadow phenomenon will occur.
