JAKARTA – The Sputnik-V vaccine has finally received permission from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) to be used in Indonesia. The Russian-made Sputnik vaccine is reported to have a high level of efficacy in fighting Covid-19 by 91 percent. However, each vaccine has its own side effects.

In the third phase of clinical trials, it proved that the vaccine was 91.6 percent effective in the confidence interval range of 85.6 percent to 95.2 percent. The side effects it causes also have mild and moderate levels such as flu symptoms, fever, headache and others.

“The most common side effects experienced are flu-like symptoms (a flu-like syndrome), which is characterized by fever, chills, joint pain (arthralgia), muscle pain (myalgia), weakness (asthenia), discomfort, headache, hyperthermia. , or local reactions at the injection site," said Penny Lukito as Head of BPOM on Wednesday, August 25, 2021.

For information, the Sputnik-V vaccine is a vaccine made by The Gamaleya National Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology in Russia using the Non-Replicating Viral Vector (Ad26-S and Ad5-S) platform.

The vaccine has been registered by PT Pratama Nirmala as the holder of an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA). PT Pratama Nirmala is also responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of the Sputnik-V vaccine in Indonesia.

In addition, the Sputnik-V vaccine must also be stored at -20oC ± 2oC. The Russian-made vaccine is used to prevent Covid-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 at the age of 18 years and over. Sputnik-V vaccine is given by intramuscular (IM) injection at a dose of 0.5 mL for two injections within 3 weeks, as reported by CNN.

With the entry of the Sputnik-V vaccine into Indonesia, there are now around several types of corona virus vaccines used in the country. Previously there were vaccines for Sinovac, Sinopharm, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, and Moderna.
