JAKARTA - Instagram is working on making its search function more intuitive. The app is experimenting with changes that allow users to search for content by topic instead of usernames or hashtags.

In fact, until now the Instagram search feature is quite simple. For example, when we type "kitten" into the search bar, it will return results for a specific account or hashtag, but we have to jump through different pages to actually find the cat content.

“We have been experimenting with what we internally call interest search. Various topics and various languages, we are working to expand the feature", said Instagram boss Adam Mosseri on his Twitter account as quoted from Engadget, Thursday, August 26.

But with the update, searching for content by topic on Instagram will be more like Pinterest, with photo and video results related to the topic.

This update is distinctly different from Feeds, Stories, Reels, and Explore in that user feedback helps Instagram figure out what to show them.

"Your search tells us what you're looking for, and it shows when the results are useless. It's important for us to do it right, so we try to organize search results according to what's most relevant to you, whether it's close friends, content creators you likes, or ideas for vegan desserts", says Mosseri.

Not just one, another major update has also come to its search feature in the last few months. The app is also working on a visual search feature that allows users to find products using the in-app camera. Unfortunately, the company has not shared any additional details.
