JAKARTA - The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) is preparing free halal certification facilitation for around 500,000 MSMEs as part of efforts to help meet halal certification obligations by October 2026.

Minister of MSME Maman Abdurrahman when opening the 2026 National Entrepreneurship Festival said that the program was prepared in cooperation with the Halal Product Guarantee Organizing Agency (BPJPH) to expand access for business actors to halal certification.

Maman said the government continues to strengthen various empowerment programs to increase the competitiveness of MSMEs, including through ease of access to business legality, financing, training, to product certification.

He assessed that the ownership of halal certification is one of the important factors to increase consumer confidence as well as expand market access for MSMEs.

In addition to the halal certification program, the Ministry of MSME also continues to strengthen the entrepreneurship ecosystem to support the utilization of Indonesia's demographic bonus.

Maman said that currently around 68 percent of Indonesians are in the productive age from a total population of more than 287 million.

According to him, this condition is a great opportunity to produce more productive and competitive entrepreneurs.

He said the government targets the national entrepreneurship ratio to reach 3.20 percent in 2026 and increase to 3.60 percent in 2029.

"The spirit of the Ministry of MSME is to ensure that every business owner can grow and develop through various programs and services provided by the government," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, June 20.

To support this target, Maman said the Ministry of MSME has also developed the Sapa UMKM application which is designed as an integrated service platform for business actors, which is aimed at reaching around 57 million MSMEs in Indonesia.

Through this platform, he said that MSMEs can access various services such as financing, certification, business licensing, training, and business development information.

In addition, the government also collaborates with 754 business incubator institutions spread across various regions of Indonesia to provide assistance to prospective entrepreneurs, startup entrepreneurs, startups, and MSMEs.
