Xiaomi Wants To Overtake Samsung To Dominate The Global Smartphone Market

Xiaomi is ready to move Samsung from the world's largest mobile phone manufacturer (TalkAndroid)

JAKARTA – After the Chinese technology giant, Xiaomi has surpassed Apple as the world's second-largest mobile phone manufacturer. Now Xiaomi is trying to shift the first position of the global smartphone manufacturer from Korea, Samsung.

Data from research firm Canalys states that Xiaomi smartphone shipments in the second quarter of 2021 have reached 17 percent. It's 2 percent behind Samsung, which tops the biggest global mobile phone maker.

On the other hand, in the same quarter of 2020, Xiaomi's mobile phone shipments skyrocketed by more than 80 percent. With this achievement, Canalys said that this is the first time Xiaomi has shifted Apple's position. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun confirmed that his party would maintain the position.

“Despite the celebrations now, I want to make sure we can maintain our second place steadily and firmly in the future,” said Lei Jun.

Canalys party, Ben Stanton openly said that Xiaomi has set a new target to top the standings. They intend to shift the position of Samsung.

“All vendors are fighting hard to secure component supply in the midst of global scarcity. But Xiaomi has been eyeing the next prize: replacing Samsung to become the world's largest vendor," Stanton said as quoted by CNN International.

In addition, Stanton also explained that the technology company from China has succeeded in quickly expanding its wings in foreign markets. For mobile phone shipments to the Latin American market itself has increased by more than 300 percent, to Western Europe 50 percent, and Africa by 150 percent.

In terms of price, Xiaomi phones are indeed priced lower than Apple and Samsung manufacturers. The price difference between Xiaomi and the two phone manufacturers is around 40 percent and 75 percent cheaper.

However, Xiaomi itself has to compete with smartphone manufacturers from within the country, such as Oppo and Vivo. Stanton called the competition a “tough battle.”
