Xiaomi Develops A Folding Screen Phone, Will Become The Main Competitor Of The Galaxy Z Flip!

JAKARTA - It has been several years since we witnessed the first appearance of folding-screen phones. And screen technology is currently growing. No longer folding, Oppo even offers a phone with a screen that can be rolled up.

However, the trend of folding screens still seems to be attractive to a number of smartphone vendors. And Xiaomi is one of the seasoned manufacturers who want to develop this unique design phone.

Unmitigated, the Chinese technology giant has even patented seven folding screen cellphone designs in January. And not long after, Xiaomi also introduced to the public its first foldable mobile phone.

Named Mi Mix Fold, this ultra flagship phone applies a folding mechanism like the Galaxy Z Fold 2. That is a vertical fold model.

As if they are still not satisfied with exploring the design of a folding-screen phone, Xiaomi has again patented a new cellphone model. This time, the company chose a design like that of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, which is a screen that can be folded horizontally.

Supported More Cameras!

Information related to mobile phones with horizontal folding screens was first shared by Ilse Jurrien, a journalist for the technology site Let's Go Digital. Jurrien found that the patent for this model was obtained by Xiaomi from the China National Intellectual Property Office (CNIPA) on July 2.

From the image shared by Jurrien, we can see that the folding screen design uses a clamshell model. Namely, a screen mechanism that can be folded into two parts horizontally – similar to that of the Galaxy Z Flip and Motorola Razr.

Even so, there are a number of differences from this Xiaomi phone. Namely, support for two selfie cameras located at the top left of the screen. Meanwhile, on the right, there is a button which, perhaps, is the power button and audio volume control.

Flipping the device, there is a circular module that wraps around the three cameras. While in the upper left corner, there is a small hole that may wrap the LED Flash.

Unfortunately, Jurrien failed to get more complete information regarding the specifications and the main features of this brand-new phone. Also, it is not known when the company will produce this sophisticated phone.

It's just that, according to Gizmochina, Xiaomi will most likely name this new phone as Mi Mix Flip. And it is estimated that this phone will be a direct competitor to other devices with a similar concept – such as the Motorola Razr or the Galaxy Z Flip.
