Avanza Hybrid Is Ready To Launch Next Year, Will Compete With Xpander Hybrid

Toyota will present the Hybrid version of the Avanza (Toyota Astra)

Jakarta - Toyota is actively electrifying its cars. This is because the popularity of electric cars is increasing. Toyota will present hybrid technology to its best-selling car, the Avanza.

The manufacture of Toyota Avanza Hybrid will be produced by PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMIIN) in 2022. This electrification will start from cars made by Toyota that have been sold in the Indonesian market such as Avanza.

"Toyota's electrification strategy that we will do is to electrify existing models, along with models that we will also import later", said Director of Administration, Corporate and External Relations of PT TMMIN, Bob Azzam in an event celebrating 50 Years of Toyota in Indonesia held online.

For information, electrification is the use of electric power for cars. Toyota is currently preparing a draft electrification program for the coming years. So, Toyota will present a hybrid version for all cars that have been in the Indonesian market.

"Based on that target, we will also build cooperation with our supply chain to transform in order to supply the changing components", said Bob.

Toyota prefers to electrify cars that have been sold in Indonesia rather than present new cars. It is intended to maintain the supply chain ecosystem.

For Toyota, this action is quite important for the automotive industry in the future. Therefore, Toyota is thinking of a change from conventional industries to planned electrification.

"So this is very important, and this becomes the root for the automotive industry in the future, therefore, it must be thought of the transformation of the industry from conventional to electrified in a planned manner, can not be done fast", said Bob.

In addition to Toyota, Mitsubishi car manufacturers have planned the electrification of their cars in advance. Mitsubishi will inject trillions of rupiah for plant development and electrification technology. Mitsubishi will present a hybrid version of Xpander.
