JAKARTA - The European Space Agency (ESA) is collaborating with Starion, a company in the field of defense and space infrastructure, in establishing the Safety Platform for Crisis and Emergency (Safeplace).

This platform was built to improve the management's ability of the crisis in Europe. The essence of Safeplace is providing detailed, accurate, and information according to the needs of the first party to face the crisis.

The hope is that this platform can become an important data delivery medium related to emergency situations due to natural disasters, such as floods, earthquakes, and fires. This platform also provides data related to chemical incidents.

The ESA explains that Safeplace brings together a consortium of nine companies from Belgium and Spain, led by Starion. In the first three years, the project will focus on four instances in Belgium and Spain, including live demonstrations.

"By increasing our ability to respond to various challenges ranging from natural disasters to humanitarian crises, we are taking significant steps towards a safer and more resilient Europe," said Laurent Jaffart, ESA's Director of Connectivity and Safe Communication.

Laurent added that this project will showcase the technological capabilities that Europe is developing. By establishing a Safeplace, ESA will help the community in presenting an unexpected crisis and state of emergency.

Safeplace will integrate further Earth observations, satellite-based position determinations, Internet of Things (IoT) data, and satellite communications services so that data can be shared easily and safely through developed platforms.
