PDP Institutions Are Not Final, It Still Takes Up To One Year For Transition

Deputy Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Nezar Patria revealed that the continuation of the formation of a personal data protection agency (PDP), which he said, was still in the preparation stage and was not final.

Because according to Nezar, the formation of the PDP Institute is still in the transition stage, which takes about six months to one year, to build organizational structure, establish new rules and work procedures in PDP institutions.

"The form may be a unit in Kominfo to handle this. Now we are discussing whether he is equal to the directorate or what he is equal to. Now that's a transition," Wayan said when met at the Kominfo office on Monday, October 14.

Even so, Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi said the time limit for the formation of this institution was until October 17.

"That's what we are preparing. Because this is new. Personal data protection items are deadlined on the 17th. Personal data protection items are on the 17th," said Budi.

Previously, Budi Arie Setiadi had also said that the derivative regulations of the PDP Law and also the PDP Institute were currently being submitted to the State Secretariat (Setneg) for follow-up.

"We have submitted this to the state secretariat, waiting from him-beliau, what is certain is that we Kominfo has prepared, addressing that this is very important to protect personal data to protect public data," Budi said on Tuesday, October 1 at the Kominfo office, Jakarta.

However, if in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 27 of 2022, the PDP Law will take effect on October 17. However, Budi ensured that the formation of derivative PP and PDP Institutions would not delay.

However, he could not confirm whether the derivative rules and the PDP supervisory agency would be present during the Joko Widodo administration or the administration of Prabowo Subianto's new President on October 20.
