JAKARTA - The United States, Britain, the European Union, and several other major countries have signed an AI security agreement drawn up by the Council of Europe (COE), an international standard organization and human rights.

This framework is the first legally binding international agreement aimed at ensuring that the use of the AI system is fully consistent with human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

The agreement was signed by Andorra, Georgia, Iceland, Norway, the Republic of Moldova, San Marino, Great Britain, Israel, the United States, and the European Union.

"We have to make sure that the rise of AI enforces our standards, instead of destroying them. The Framework Convention is designed to ensure that," said European Council Secretary General Marija Pej.

With this agreement, Buriria hopes that this can be a good first step from the many other signings and will soon be followed by ratification, so that the agreement can take effect as soon as possible.

The agreement provides a legal framework that covers the entire life cycle of the AI system, as well as encourages AI progress and innovation, as well as manages the risks it may pose to human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

A total of 46 member countries of the Council of Europe, the European Union, and 11 non-member countries (Argentina, Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Holy Throne, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Peru, the United States, and Uruguay) participated in negotiating the agreement. Representatives from the private sector, civil society, and academics also contribute as observers.

The agreement will take effect three months after five signatories, including at least three member states of the European Council, have ratified it.

Countries from around the world will meet the requirements to join and commit to comply with the provisions.
