JAKARTA - OpenAI executives are rumored to have discussed plans for higher-price subscriptions for the upcoming big language model (LLM), such as a model with a focus on reasoning called "Strawberry" and a new flagship model called "Orion", according to The Information report on Thursday.

In an initial internal discussion at OpenAI, subscription prices of up to $ 2,000 per month have been discussed, the report said, citing someone with direct knowledge of the figure. OpenAI has not immediately responded to a request for comment from Reuters.

Currently, ChatGPT Plus costs $20 per month, while the free version is used by hundreds of millions of users every month.

OpenAI, backed by Microsoft, is working on a project under the code name "Strawberry", which aims to enable AI models to conduct in-depth research. "Strawberry" includes a special way in the so-called "post-training" or follow-up training of OpenAI's generative AI models. The model will be adapted to improve performance once the basic model is trained with general data.

The price discussion comes after media reports said that Apple and chip giant Nvidia are in talks to invest in OpenAI as part of a new funding round that could assess the value of ChatGPT makers above $100 billion.

The AI startup, which is behind the ChatGPT app last week, announced that the chatbot had reached more than 200 million weekly active users, double the amount it had in the fall last year.
